Holly Strand

Born into an Air Force family, I had a varied geographic upbringing, living in and adapting to different landscapes and lifestyles ranging from the DC suburbs to a Chamorro village in Guam. What started as a challenge to adapt, eventually became a strength: I can communicate effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds. That’s why for much of my career—I was often sent abroad to represent a U.S. company or organization. To date I have carried out work assignments in over 30 countries.

My work has always concentrated in areas combining knowledge of the nature, earth processes, and human behavior. For the most part I have worked in the areas of conservation, resource management, and natural hazards. I have worked with a wide variety of clients representing academia, policy research institutes, and natural resource agencies and NGOs.

For the past 15 years, my work has evolved toward science communications. My tools are writing, editing, making maps, and producing audio and video content. My clients appreciate my ability to transform complex technical writing into a simpler and easier to understand articles, reports, proposals, and online media content.

I live in Salt Lake City with a tenacious and creative teenager and a handsome Australian shepherd. Living here lets us indulge in our favorite activities: music, hiking, aikido, and skiing.
